Flag Lowering: Dr. James Pearson & Valerian Revutsky

The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered today, Thursday, January 11, 2011 to mark the passing of Dr. James Anthony (Tony) Pearson and Associate Professor Emeritus Valerian Revutsky.

PEARSON, Dr. James Anthony (Tony) passed away on January 6, 2011. Dr. Pearson received his doctorate in physiology from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1966. Recruited in January 1969 to the Department of Physiology at UBC he remained until his retirement in December 2007. He is fondly remembered by colleagues and students for his gifted teaching contributions and sharp wit. In particular he pioneered a multi-disciplinary, team teaching and clinically relevant approach to neuroscience teaching in the MD Undergraduate Program. REVUTSKY, Valerian Associate Professor Emeritus of Slavonic Studies (1976) passed away Wednesday December 22, 2010. Professor Revutsky commenced working with UBC in July 1960 in Slavonic Studies and retired on July 1, 1976. He was a distinguished scholar of numerous Canadian, American and Ukrainian academic institutions.
