Norma Rose Point

The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered today, Friday, July 6, 2012 in memory of Elder Norma Rose Point of the Nlaka’pamux, Sto:lo, and Musqueam Nations who passed away on Monday, July 2, 2012. 

Rose, a UBC alumna, was a strong advocate for Aboriginal children, families and students and was passionate about education.  She provided guidance and leadership to many organizations and served as Education Coordinator for the Musqueam Indian Band, Elder at the UBC First Nations House of Learning and Institute for Aboriginal Health and as Elder Advisor at BCIT. 

An important part of the UBC community for many years, Rose sat on numerous committees across the university and shared her teachings with children and youth through her work with UBC Summer camps and at the UBC Farm.

Rose was an inspiration to countless young people and will be deeply missed by all who were touched by her kindness, strength, and wisdom.

A funeral service will be held Friday, July 6 at 10:00 am in the Musqueam Community Centre at 6777 Salish Drive.
