Tomás Bartrolí, Gordon L. Baskerville, Karl Maxwell Ruppenthal, Thomas J. Wally

The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered on Tuesday, February 12, in remembrance.

Bartrolí, Tomás, passed away on February 2, 2013. He was professor in the Department of Hispanic and Italian Studies, beginning in 1956, where his research focused on the history of the Spanish presence in the Pacific Northwest. Professor Bartrolí maintained ties to UBC after returning to Spain when he retired in 1976.

Baskerville, Gordon L., FRSC – passed away on February 2, 2013. Dr. Baskerville came to UBC to head the Department of Forest Resources Management from 1993 until his retirement in 1997.

Ruppenthal, Karl Maxwell, Professor Emeritus, passed away on January 13, 2013. Dr. Ruppenthal was professor in the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration where he was the first Director of the Centre for Transportation Studies at UBC from its inception in 1971 until his retirement in 1983.

Thomas, J. Wally, Professor Emeritus from the Department of Pathology, passed away on January 15, 2013. Dr. Thomas joined the Hematopathology Lab in 1954, and became Division Head in 1958 until his retirement in 1981. His passion for research and expertise in genetics led him to become a world-renowned expert in orchid hybridization.
