Alfred J. Scow

The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered Wednesday, March 6, in remembrance.

Alfred John Scow, C.M., O.B.C., passed away on February 26, 2013. A UBC alumnus, The Honorable Alfred J. Scow was the first Aboriginal person to graduate from UBC Law School, and the first Native in BC to be appointed as a legally-trained judge. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws from UBC in 1997. A friend and hero to many, memorials are posted from the First Nations House of Learning and the Faculty of Law.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver, on Saturday, March 9th at 2:00 PM. There will be a celebration of Alfred’s life in Sty-Wet-Tan, the Great Hall of the First Nations Longhouse, on Sunday, March 10th, 2013 at 2:00 P.M.
