Lieutenant-Governor Garde Gardom, QC, OBC, LL.D

The BC flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered today, June 21, in remembrance.

Former Lieutenant-Governor, The Hon. Garde Gardom, QC, OBC, LL.D, who passed away on June 18, 2013, a month shy of his 89th birthday. He graduated from UBC Faculty of Law in 1949 and worked as a lawyer before entering politics. Following a long record of public service, including being a member of the legislative assembly, cabinet minister and provincial representative to London and Europe, he was appointed B.C.’s 26th lieutenant-governor in 1995 and served until 2001. In 2002 he received an honorary degree (LL.D) from UBC.
