Roy Turner

The BC and UBC flags (at the North Plaza of the Old SUB) will be lowered on Thursday, April 20, in memory of Professor Emeritus Roy Turner, who passed away suddenly on April 15, 2017.

Dr. Turner, a leading ethnomethodologist was a member of the Anthropology and Sociology Department from 1965 to 1993.  Roy edited the seminal collection of essays, Ethnomethodology: Selected Readings, that was published to international acclaim by Penguin in 1974.   Roy was born in Croydon in England and taught both at UBC and, after leaving Vancouver, at York University in Toronto.  He is widely remembered by many students who were inspired by him and his approach to the sociology of everyday life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Hart House at the University of Toronto, on Sunday, September 10 at 5:30 pm.
