The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered today, Friday March 25, 2011, to mark the passing of Douglas “Buzz” Moore and Professor Michael Wallace and
Moore, Douglas “Buzz”, local rugby legend and the soul of the UBC athletics department for almost five decades, died Monday night.
Buzz arrived on the UBC Campus in 1964 and began his role as Mr. Everything – business manager, histroian, fundraiser, coach, accountant, PR director, alumni liaison, mentor, and caretaker.
After his retirement in ’86, he continued to come to work and drive numerous alumni projects. He was in the office as recently as Friday, March 18, 2011.
In 1991, Buzz received an Honorary Alumnus Award, and in 2002, he received an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree. Memorial Details are not yet available.
Wallace, Michael, joined the department of Political Science in 1968 and was a member until his retirement in 2008. He passed away on Monday March 21, 2011. A memorial Service will be held on March 31, 2011, at Fireside United Church, Burrard Street and 16th Avenue at 3 p.m.
