Are you a department or faculty on campus planning an event at UBC Vancouver? Below are some tips that may prove useful.
Involving the President
If the event is a ceremonial event such as a Building Opening, Ground Breaking or Building Dedication, in which you hope to involve the President, contact the Ceremonies Office. We will evaluate your event and guide you as to the next steps in terms of securing the President’s time and engaging key partners, including Public Affairs, Government Relations and more.
If you do not require assistance with an event but wish the President to speak at it, you may go to the President’s office website and complete a “Speech Request”.
Development & Alumni Engagement
If the event is a donor recognition event such as a dinner or luncheon, you should call the Donor Relations Events team at 604.827.5039. If the event is an alumni event such as a reunion or celebration, first call should be to the Alumni Events team at 604.827.3145. Even if you plan on executing the whole event within your own unit, the Events team can provide a check list and other useful resources.
Faculty or Departmental Event
If you are planning an event on campus and need guidance and information, below is some information and contacts you might find useful. Ceremonies and Events will also provide guidance in planning your event strategy including the format of the event, programming, type of event, or number of speakers. Our office will also provide advice on protocol in relation to speaking order, flags, forms of address, invitations to the Musqueam and any other protocol issues that arise.
