The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered today, Tuesday April 12, 2011, to mark the passing of Dr. Bernard E. Riedel.
Riedel, Bernard E., Dean Emeritus, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, passed away on April 6, 2011.
Riedel served as Dean (1967-84); Coordinator, Health Sciences (1977-84); Member, UBC Senate; Chair, Senior Appointments Committee (1970-74; 1981-83) and was a member of several committees. During his tenure, Faculty programs expanded to include the Ph.D. degree; Continuing Education and Clinical Pharmacy that served to train students for a patient-oriented practice of pharmacy. Dr. Riedel received the Canadian Forces Decoration (1960); Centennial Medal (1967); D of Sc (Honorary), University of Alberta (1990); 75th Anniversary Medal, UBC (1990); and the Order of Canada (1996).
A memorial service will be held at 11.00 a.m., Saturday, April 30th, at Ryerson United Church, 2195 West 45th Avenue, Vancouver, with a reception to follow in the Church Hall.
