Sydney Friedman

The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered on Thursday, February 19 in remembrance.

Professor Emeritus Sydney Murray Friedman, FRSC, passed away on February 16, 2015. Sydney and his wife, Constance Livingstone Friedman, came to UBC in 1950 as founding members of the Faculty of Medicine, where they taught the first graduating class of 1954. Sydney was Head of the Department of Anatomy from 1950 to 1981; his contributions to the greater scientific community were well recognized. The Friedman Building was constructed in 1961 and the Annex in 1967, named in honour of the Friedmans’ contribution to campus life.

Sydney has requested that no memorial service take place. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the Friedman Scholars Program at UBC.
