Flag Lowering: Dr. David Freeman & Dr. Lawrence Young

The BC Flag (Main Mall & Agronomy) is lowered, Wednesday September 29, 2010 to mark the passing of Dr. David Freeman and Dr. Lawrence Young.

Freeman, Dr. David

Dr. David Freeman passed away on September 13, 2010. Dr. Freeman received his doctorate in social work from USC in 1973 and moved to Vancouver to begin a long teaching career at UBC’s School of Social Work. He maintained a family therapy practice, was an author and gifted public speaker. A Memorial Service will be held at the Museum of Anthropology, UBC 6393 NW Marine Drive, Vancouver on October 3rd, 2010 at 7pm. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. The family has invited anyone who would like to share a memory of Dr. Freeman to record an audio message no longer than 2 minutes. Young, Dr. Lawrence

Dr. Lawrence Young passed away on September 22, 2010. Dr. Lawrence was a faculty member in the EECE Department from 1963 to his retirement in 1991. In 1977 he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and made Life Fellow of the IEEE in 1992. He was a private man, and wished to have no remembrance service, but there are staff, faculty and emeriti who will not forget his keen intelligence, sharp wit, and dedication to his students.
