The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered today, Wednesday, June 1, 2011, to mark the passing of Associate Professor Emeritus Jan J. Solecki.
Solecki, Jan, taught Russian Language and the Economics of the Soviet Union in the Department of Slavonic Studies at UBC from 1964 – 1984. His research concentrated on the economics of fishers and forestry in the USSR and was frequently consulted by the industry. Viewing will be at held at 1:00 pm with a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 PM AT St. Marks Chapel, 5935 Lona Drive, UBC, Vancouver, B.C., followed by a reception at his home.
