The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered today, Wednesday January 18, 2012, to mark the passing of Dr. Robert Maynard Jordan.
Jordan, Robert Maynard, former head of the Department of English, passed away at the age of 87 on January 7, 2012. Dr. Jordan first came to UBC as an associate professor in 1958. He spent 5 years in that position before accepting administrative positions in New York and Wisconsin. He returned to head the UBC English Department in 1969, a position he held until 1982.
Dr. Jordan held an abiding love for harmony, both in music and philosophy. He was an accomplished jazz musician and the author of Chaucer and the Shape of Creation, which explored linkages between the medieval world view and Chaucer’s works.
A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
