Dr. Shuryo Nakai

The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered today, Tuesday January 24, 2012, to mark the passing of Dr. Shuryo Nakai. Dr. Nakai passed away peacefully in Vancouver on January 16, 2012.

Dr. Nakai’s was awarded UBC’s Killam Research Prize in 1986. Dr Nakai’s outstanding research and professional contributions were both acknowledged and awarded by the Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology, the American Egg Board and  the American Oil Chemists Society. He was made a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology in 1990. Following his retirement from UBC in 1991, he remained an active researcher and was later named by the Institute for Scientific Information as one of the most cited scientists in the area of Food Science. In 2004, he was nominated a Fellow of the Institute of Food Scientists (USA) and the Winner of the AGFD Award for the Advancement of Agricultural and Food Chemistry by the American Chemical Society.
