Dr. Shirley Wong

The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered today, Thursday August 30th, in memory of Dr. Shirley Wong. Dr. Wong had a career which spanned over four decades in education and was a supporter of lifelong learning. She was dedicated to her Strathcona roots and to providing opportunities to Faculty of Education students through her three named endowment funds.

Shirley was a UBC double alumna obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce in 1956 and a Bachelor of Education in 1963. She taught business education for 15 years in Burnaby before traveling to the Oregon to complete a Masters and later a PhD in Education. Shirley returned to Vancouver to begin 25 more years at UBC in the Faculty of Education,  retiring in 1997.  Shirley remained connected to her faculty as part of the Emeriti Committee and was a good friend to the Landed Learning on the Farm Project.
