Professor Jacob Zilber and Professor Mary Hill

The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 to mark the passing of:

Professor Jacob Zilber, Professor Emeritus, who passed away on Tuesday August 21, 2012.

 Professor Jacob Zilber taught creative writing at the University of British Columbia from 1957 to 1989. Jacob Zilber served as chairman of the University of British Columbia’s Creative Writing Committee prior to the establishment of UBC’s Department of Creative Writing in 1965. Jacob Zilber was also one of the founders of UBC’s Prism magazine and served as its editor from 1966 to 1973. His family will celebrate his life on the one year anniversary of his death. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Jacob Zilber Scholarship at UBC.

 

Professor Mary Hill, Professor Emeritus, who passed away on Thursday September 13, 2012.

Professor Hill taught at the UBC School of Social work from 1960 to 1987 and became Professor Emeritus upon her retirement. In 2000, Mary was honoured by the establishment of the Mary Hill Scholarship at the UBC School of Social Work to assist students in pursuing an education in gerontology. Donations may be made to the UBC Mary Hill Scholarship Fund.
