The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered on Tuesday, October 9, in memory of Katherine “Kaye” Brearley, Associate Professor Emerita, who passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012.
Katherine Brearley was in charge of the UBC Women’s Residence from 1950-54 and was Assistant Dean of Women from 1959-62. In 1969, Kaye was promoted to Associate Professor in the Department of French and was the Senior Faculty Advisor in the Faculty of Arts. Kaye served in these roles at UBC until she retired in 1980. A women’s service award with UBC Athletics is named for her.
There will be a private burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby, BC. Arrangements entrusted to Forest Lawn Funeral Home(www.forestlawn-burnaby.com; 604-299-7720).
