The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered on Monday, November 26, in memory of Dr. Helen Mussallem and Adrian Marriage.
Dr. Helen Mussallem C.C. passed away on November 9, 2012. Dr. Mussallem was Canada’s most decorated nurse and an internationally respected authority on nursing education and health care delivery. She was awarded an Honorary doctorate from UBC in 1994. (http://www.library.ubc.ca/archives/hdcites/hdcites10.html#mussallem) Her funeral was in Ottawa on November 16 but there will likely be a gathering in Vancouver in January 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family have asked for memorial contributions to the Canadian Nurses Foundation. Professor Adrian Marriage, Associate Professor Emeritus of Sociology, passed away on November 9, 2012. Prof. Marriage began at UBC in the School of Social Work in 1954, joined the Department of Sociology in 1965 and retired in 1990. He taught with distinction and great enthusiasm in the Arts One program. No flowers by request, donations to the Charity of your choice are appreciated.
