Dr. Henry K. Litherland and Ms. Libby Kay

The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered on Wednesday, December 5, in memory of Dr. Henry K. Litherland and Ms. Libby Kay.

Dr. Henry K. Litherland passed away at the age of 86 on Tuesday November 27, 2012 at the palliative care unit of the Vancouver General Hospital. Dr. Litherland has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in healthcare, working as a general and vascular surgeon, an educator, and later was appointed head of the UBC and Vancouver General Hospital Divisions of Vascular Surgery. He was on staff at the Vancouver General Hospital and the University of British Columbia Hospital, and for the past fifteen years, as Clinical Professor Emeritus, has used his experience to train medical students. Funeral service to be held at St. Mary’s Kerrisdale Church at 2490 West 37th Avenue, Vancouver on Wednesday December 5, 2012 at 2:00. Libby Kay passed away from cancer this past Saturday, November 24, 2012. Libby Kay worked at UBC for 25 years in the Office of Extra-Sessional Studies (ESS). Known for her ability to establish broad connections with UBC faculty members in dozens of departments across campus, she was a key member of a team that gave leadership to coordinating evening and summer session credit courses. Libby retired in 1999 and moved with her husband to Sorrento, BC.
