Judy Brown, Tamara Edinger and Xiaohong Zhang

 

The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered on Friday, September 6, in remembrance.

Brown, Judith  – passed away on September 1, 2013.  Judy began her career in the Department of English at UBC in 1978, where she has actively served as Associate Head since 2008.  Her passion for teaching was reflected in the waiting lists for her classes and recognized by multiple awards, most notably the 3M National Teaching Fellowship.

An event celebrating Judy’s life will take place on Wednesday, October 23, from 3:30 to 5:00 pm in the First Nations Longhouse, 1985 West Mall.

Edinger, Tamara Nicole – died accidentally on August 22, 2013 in Grande Prairie, Alberta, at 26 years of age.  Tamara was a returning student in UBC’s Dental Hygiene Degree Program and about to enter her fourth (and final) year.  She was regularly involved in UBC Dentistry’s community outreach programs and was an outstanding volunteer leader with the Homeless Awareness Week initiative in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.  Tamara was a passionate advocate for community involvement and a committed dental hygiene professional.  She will be deeply missed by the students, faculty and staff of UBC Dentistry and by the oral health community.

Zhang, Xiaohong – passed away on June 23, 2013.  Dr. Zhang was a research associate in Surgery – Eye Care Centre from 2000 to 2002.
