The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered on Friday, November 15, in memory of William Hickson Barton, CM, LL.D, who passed away on November 8, 2013.
After receiving his Bachelor of Arts from UBC in 1940, he served his country, developing a reputation as an authority on peace and security issues, representing Canada on the United Nations Security Council. In 1993, Dr. Barton was awarded the Order of Canada for having enhanced Canada’s role and stature in the international community.
In 1999, he received an honorary degree (LL.D.) from UBC.
