The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered on Thursday, September 18, in memory of Clinical Associate Professor Emeritus Theo Arie van Rijn, who passed away on August 26, 2014.
Dr. van Rijn taught Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) since 1984, and was Head of the UBC Division of PMR and Director of GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre from 2002 to 2006. He received several awards for excellence in teaching. In 2008, the UBC Division of PM&R created the Theo van Rijn Award in his honour of his contribution to the residency program. Theo retired from office practice in 2011, but continued his early morning teaching sessions until his final months.
A celebration of life will be held at St. George’s School, 4175 W. 29th Avenue, Vancouver on Saturday, October 4, from 2 to 5 p.m.
