Angus Gunn

 

The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered on Thursday, December 18, in memory of Angus Macleod Gunn, Professor Emeritus of Social and Educational Studies, who passed away on December 10, 2014

Born in 1920 in Invergordon Scotland, Professor Gunn moved to Vancouver in the late 1950s and earned a BEd (Secondary) and MA (Geography) from UBC in 1961 and 1965, respectively.  In 1964, he was appointed as an Instructor at UBC and achieved the rank of professor in 1977.  He taught courses in curriculum and instruction in elementary and secondary social studies and served as the Chair of the Department of Social Studies Education (1971-73).  In 1972, he served as a consultant to the Canadian UNESCO Commission Special Conference on United Nations Schools, Stanley House, Gaspé.  Mr. Gunn retired from UBC in 1985 and was granted professor emeritus status.
