Stephanie Grothe passed away on January 11, 2015 at the age of 30. Stephanie came to UBC from Germany four years ago to study in the Laboratory for Atomic Imaging Research in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. She was months from completing her Ph.D.
Dr. Neil Charles Mackenzie passed away on January 11, 2015 at the age of 31. Neil was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Bromme Lab at the Centre for Blood Research.
The UBYSSEY has written about Stephanie, Neil, and their friend Elena. In their memory, a fundraising campaign has been established, with the proceeds going to the Search And Rescue community in BC.
The UBC Varsity Outdoor Club will hold a public memorial service on Thursday, January 22.
