The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered on Friday, February 13, in remembrance.
Dr. John Athol Meech passed away on February 9, 2015. Dr. Meech joined UBC in 1989 and during his time at UBC had tremendous influence on many students in the department of Mining Engineering as well as others at UBC and in industry. A student award, called “The Meech”, is being planned. The criteria for the award are being considered, but they will no doubt relate to the value he placed on critical, interdisciplinary, and innovative thinking. Professor Meech was inducted into the Quarter Century Club in 2014.
A memorial service will be held at Cecil Green Park House on Friday February 13 at 5:30 pm. Further details may be found at the department web site www.mining.ubc.ca.
