Professor Emeritus Alexander Norbert MacDonald passed away on April 1, 2015. An urban historian of Canada, Prof. MacDonald joined the History Department at UBC in 1961 and retired in 1991. His work placed the history of Vancouver in comparative context. His book, Distant Neighbors: a Comparative History of Seattle and Vancouver was considered innovative for its exploration of how different national governmental processes affect urban life. A gathering to remember Norb will be held in the summer of 2015 in Vancouver.
