Klaus Petersen

The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered on Wednesday, July 29, in memory of Professor Emeritus Klaus Petersen, who passed away on July 17, 2015.

Dr. Petersen earned his PhD at UBC in 1974, returning to teach in the Department of Germanic Studies in 1976. He was a driving force in establishing the Department of Central, Eastern and Northern European Studies, of which he was Head from 1985 to 1990. A prolific and highly respected scholar, his special area of interest was early twentieth-century German literature, followed in later years by important work on literature and censorship. Klaus retired in 2003 but kept in close touch with the Department.

The Department of Central, Eastern and Northern European Studies will host an event in honour of Klaus in late August.
