The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered on Monday, August 24, in remembrance.

Chancellor Emeritus Leslie Raymond Peterson, CM, OBC, QC passed away on April 14, 2015. Dr. Peterson graduated from UBC in 1949 with a degree in Law, and was conferred an Honorary Doctor of Laws in 1993. Dr. Peterson is remembered as a quiet-spoken man who served society, his country and UBC. First elected to the BC Legislature in 1956, he served 16 consecutive years, as Minister of Education (1956-68), Minister of Labour (1960-71) and Attorney General (1968-72). Dr. Peterson returned to UBC to serve on the Board of Governors from 1978 to 1993, as Chair of the Board from 1979 to 1983 and as Chancellor from 1987 to 1993.

A Celebration of Life was held at the Hotel Vancouver on Friday, June 26, 2015.
