Dick Splane

The BC Flag (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) will be lowered on Monday, November 16, in memory of Professor Emeritus Richard Beverly Splane, OC, who passed away on November 8, 2015.

Dr. Splane was recruited by UBC in 1973, as Professor in the School of Social Work, where he served until his retirement in 1982. He stood as one of the great figures in the history of social policy in Canada and a true icon of social justice here in Canada and around the world.  Dick and his wife and colleague Verna were conferred the first-ever joint honorary Doctorate of Laws by UBC in 1996, for their exceptional contribution to public service.

This year’s Splane lecture will take place on November 16; there will be time to remember Dick and honour his legacy.  For details see https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/the-2015-splane-lecture-piita-irniq-former-commissioner-of-nunavut-tickets-19023212942
