Professor Emeritus Peter A. Murtha passed away on January 6, 2016. Dr. Murtha came to the Faculty of Forestry in 1975, a specialist in photo interpretation of forest analysis and remote sensing, using information about the earth recorded by satellites and aircraft. He is credited with bringing GIS (geographic information systems) to UBC for both teaching and research. Peter was inducted to the Quarter Century Club in 1999, retiring in 2003.
