The BC and UBC flags (at the North Plaza of the Life Building (the Old SUB) will be lowered on Friday, January 18, in remembrance.
Professor Emeritus Robert Scagel passed away on December 15, 2018. Dr. Scagel served in the Department of Botany as curator of the Herbarium at UBC from 1952-2000, where he built up the phycological (seaweed) collection to comprise more than 67,000 specimens. Dr. Scagel also acted as director of the UBC Herbarium from 1972-1986. Dr. Scagel was one of the first collectors to use scuba gear, and his graduate students accompanied him on dives.
