The BC and UBC flags (at the North Plaza of the Old SUB) will be lowered on Monday, March 18, in remembrance.
Dr. Joseph Schlesinger passed away on February 11, 2019. Dr. Schlesinger studied Journalism at UBC and in 1991 he received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from UBC. His journalistic career took him from Canada to Paris, Hong Kong and Washington amongst many other places. He worked with The Province newspaper, The New York Herald Tribune, The Toronto Star and ultimately with the CBC in various positions including, Executive Producer of National News, Head of CBC-TV news and Chief Political Correspondent in Ottawa. He won several Gemini awards for his coverage of the Iran- Contra affair and his documentary on the Spanish Civil War.
