The BC, Musqueam and UBC flags (at the North Plaza of the Life Building (the Old SUB) will be lowered on Wednesday, April 10, in remembrance.
Ms. Yoona Kim passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on March 13, 2019 following a brief illness. Yoona was an alumna of UBC, having graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry in 2015. During her program, she worked as a co-op student in the Beristain Lab at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute in 2014, and as an Undergraduate Student Academic Assistant with the International Student Initiative from 2011 to 2015. After graduation, Yoona worked as a Senior Research Technologist and as a Project Coordinator at STEMCELL Technologies Inc. from 2015 to 2019. In early 2019, she joined the UBC Faculty of Medicine as a Project Coordinator.
Yoona was delightful to work with and showed immense promise. Her family and friends loved her very much and will miss her dearly. Our hearts go out to them at this very difficult time.
