On behalf of Adam Charania, Vice-President, Human Resources, we are pleased to share that the UBC Staff and Faculty BBQ is coming this fall.
Held annually in September, the event is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a complimentary lunch, live entertainment, information booths, and the camaraderie of your fellow UBC staff colleagues and faculty members.
Registration for the BBQ is completed through your department contact. (Department Contact, learn more about registering your colleagues.)
Event Wristbands
UBC Protocol, Ceremonies and Events will be issuing wristbands to all who have registered for the event. Wristbands will be sent to the departmental contact in each department a week before the event. If you haven’t received a wristband and had RSVP’d before the close of registration, please check with your departmental contact to ensure you were included on the department list.
Registered staff and faculty should wear their wristbands on the event day to gain access to the food tent.
Missed Registering?
Staff & faculty who have missed registering through your departmental contact are welcome to join the BBQ festivities, and can visit the “BBQ Registration” table on the day of the event. Please bring your UBCcard for verification. We will do our best to accommodate day-of registration, however, a wrist band for food cannot be guaranteed.
Support Moving Towards Zero Waste!
This year’s Staff and Faculty BBQ is following UBC’s Zero Waste Action Plan (ZWAP) and Green Your Event guidelines to reduce waste and environmental impact.
We’re aiming for a nearly zero landfill waste event with only two waste streams available: compost and recycling. Help us get there by doing the following:
- Bring a reusable water bottle
- Consider bringing your own plate and cutlery to reduce single-use items
- Recycle and compost properly – clear signage and onsite sustainability volunteers will be there to help
Together, we can model what a more sustainable UBC event looks like.

Community Partner Booths
The Community Partner tables are an integral part of providing value at the event and engaging staff and faculty. To ensure this is a worthwhile part of the BBQ experience, we are looking for Community Partners who offer the following:
• Programs, Services, and Opportunities: Available and relevant to UBC staff and faculty broadly, regardless of their role at the university. This includes culture, recreation, and opportunities that support staff and faculty wellbeing at UBC.
• Interactive: Opportunities for attendees to interact and engage with table staff, make connections, and learn something new. In other words, table displays should be welcoming, interesting, and fun.
• Sustainable: We also encourage our community partners who have tables at the event to go paper free as much as possible. If you wish to include giveaways, please have them be useful or practical.
The demand for tables is always strong and departments are asked to share tables wherever possible. Preference will be given to exhibitors who meet the above criteria.
The time commitment is as follows:
• Booth set-up – 9:30 am
• BBQ Start Time – 11:00 am
• Event End Time – 2:00 pm
