The UBC 25 Year Club was established in 1971 by President Walter Gage to recognize non-faculty staff with 25 years of uninterrupted or accumulated service. In 2004, the club began recognizing active staff who have reached the additional milestone of 35 years of service, and in 2013 staff members with 40 years of active service were included in the recognition program. And last year, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 25 Year Club a 50 year recognition level was introduced.
As part of the 50th anniversary activities, archival documents and photos for the individual years were uploaded to the 25 Year Club 50th Anniversary page.
Over the years, the annual dinner has become a wonderful opportunity for new, active and retired members to keep in touch with each other and the university in a warm, celebratory environment. Please ensure you keep us up to date with a current email address to ensure you will receive your invitation each year.
Due to BC’s provincial health regulations regarding COVID-19, the annual dinner originally scheduled for last May was cancelled and replaced with a virtual event held on Friday, September 18.
2021 Event: Thursday, October 7
In light of the Provincial health restrictions gradually lifting we are planning for a return to an in-person celebration to be held in the fall this year. Invitations will be sent out later in the summer and we hope to see you at the event.
To be eligible for membership, a person must have worked as an employee of the University for a total of 25 years, as of January 1 in their twenty-fifth year of service. On continuous service, up to 12 months leave is permitted.
If a staff member has achieved 20 years of service and subsequently goes on permanent disability, the staff member shall be deemed to be eligible for membership after five years on disability.
If an employee has split service, as long as they have a total of 25 years of accumulated service, they shall be deemed eligible for the club. However, each case will be reviewed individually by the Executive Committee to verify details.
The Executive Committee of the 25 Year Club will consider any other names put forward for membership on a case-by-case basis.
